Post Traumatic Stress
Post traumatic stress (PTSD) is a symptomatic response to a traumatic event. PTSD is diagnosed in children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Exposure to a traumatic event must have occurred. The traumatic event can be experienced or witnessed by the person. The trauma may also be experienced by learning that a loved one has been involved in a traumatic event.


PTSD is identified by a psychiatric professional that conducts a thorough assessment and screening. Effective treatment is available for PTSD. If you or your child have any of the following symptoms after a traumatic event make an appointment for a thorough evaluation:

Recurrent, involuntary, and intrusive distressing memories of the event

Distressing dreams related to the traumatic event

Feeling or acting as if the traumatic event were happening

Distress at the exposure of cues that remind the person of the trauma

Persistent avoidance of reminders regarding the traumatic event
